A Style floor is an investment for your home or project. If it is well looked after, your floor will retain it’s beauty and elegance for generations to come. However, as with any hardwood floor, careful attention needs to be paid to this natural product to ensure the investment holds on to its value, and you remain delighted with your purchase.
To ensure your floor retains its natural beauty, follow these 3 tips:
1. Cleaning
Your Style floor is one of the most durable options on the market, but like all solid timber can be easily damaged by water and dirt.
Keep your floor clean and dry - wet mopping is a big no-no
Vacuum or sweep your floor regularly to remove daily grime and to prevent any build up which can dull the lustre of your floor.
Clean your floor at least once a week with a cleaner specially designed for Hardwood floors such as Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner- ordinary household cleaners and soaps will again just dull the surface.
2. Protection
The good news is that all Style floors are extremely hard and indentation resistant, meaning you are unlikely to suffer any of the issues such as dents or impressions which can be common with other hardwoods. However, all flooring finishes (even our own excellent StyleGuard™) can be scratched if precautions are not taken.
Use rugs and mats on high traffic areas and entrance ways to reduce a lot of the impact and ensure dirt and grit are not walked into a room
Place felt protector pads on the base of all furniture in contact with the floor as this is often a key cause of scratching, particularly when items are pushed across a floor.
Make sure any spills are cleaned up promptly- remember that excess liquid is an enemy of wood floors!
3. Humidity
As a natural product, your Style floor will react and acclimatise to its environment. This means that temperature and humidity levels become a key factor in ensuring the longevity of your floor. Simply put, if the temperature and humidity levels within a room are too low, your floor will contract resulting in shrinking and gapping; if they are too high the boards will expand which can cause warping and cupping. Therefore, it is essential that you maintain a consistent humidity level between heating seasons in all living areas. Fortunately, Style floors have a comfort level very similar to the range that most humans enjoy so this should not be too difficult a task.
Ensure the room maintains a humidity level of 35-55% and temperature of 65-750F (20-240C).
Check levels using a humidity gauge which can be purchased at most DIY/Hardware stores to check this.
If humidity levels are outside of the recommended range use a humidifier/dehumidifier as necessary.
3 QUICK & EASY CLEANING STEPS
Style recommends using the Bona range of cleaning products to ensure your Style floor stays looking as good as when you bought it.
Bona® Hardwood Floor Cleaner is a water-based, non-toxic cleaner which is specially designed for polyurethane finished hardwood floors. Unlike all-purpose cleaners and oil soaps, it quickly cleans tough stains and spills- from red wine to scuff marks- all without dulling your floor’s beautiful finish or leaving any residue. No mixing or diluting is necessary- just spray on and wipe. It’s as simple as 1, 2 , 3:
1. Vacuum
Vacuum, dry mop or sweep to remove any loose dirt or grit.
2. Spray
Lightly mist a 1-2m2 (4”x6”) area of your Style floor or directly mist the cleaning pad with Bona® Hardwood Floor Cleaner
3. Wipe
Using a back and forth motion, clean the floor surface with a microfiber cloth or mop until dry. Replace a soiled mop or cloth when it becomes soiled to avoid streaking.
